Class Setup

Create and manage your school's class-section structure, assign class teachers, and move students to the next class at year-end with the Bulk Promotion tool.

What Class Setup does

Go to Class Setup in the left sidebar. This page has two parts:

  • Class management — create class-section combinations (e.g., Class 9 Section A) and assign a class teacher to each one.
  • Bulk Promotion — at the end of an academic year, move all students from one class to the next in a single operation.
Do this first: Classes must be created here before you can enrol students, build timetables, or mark attendance. Start by adding all the class-sections your school uses.

Adding a class-section

SchoolWise Class Setup page showing the Add New Class form at the top with Class Level, Section, and Class Teacher fields, and the Existing Classes table below listing current class-sections.
The Class Setup page — add new class-sections and see existing ones in the table below.
  • 1 In the Add New Class form at the top, enter the Class Level (e.g., 9, 10, LKG).
  • 2 Enter the Section letter (e.g., A, B, C).
  • 3 Optionally select a Class Teacher from the dropdown. Only staff members already added in the Staff Directory appear here.
  • 4 Click Add Class. The new class-section appears in the Existing Classes table.

Tip: To change the class teacher for an existing class-section, click Edit on that row and select a different teacher from the dropdown.

Bulk Promotion

At the end of an academic year, use Bulk Promotion to move all students from one class to the next in one action — no need to update each student individually.

  • 1 Scroll to the Bulk Promotion section at the bottom of the Class Setup page.
  • 2 Choose the Source Class — the class whose students you want to move up (e.g., Class 9 – A).
  • 3 Choose the Destination Class — the class they move into (e.g., Class 10 – A). For Class 12 graduates, select 🎓 Graduated / Alumni.
  • 4 Click Promote Students. All students in the source class are instantly updated to the destination class.

Graduating Class 12 students

Select 🎓 Graduated / Alumni as the destination for final-year students. Their records are preserved for historical reference, but they are removed from active class lists, attendance, and timetable workflows. Their Class column in the directory shows Graduated.

Warning: Bulk Promotion updates all students in the source class instantly and cannot be undone. Verify your Source and Destination selections carefully before clicking Promote Students.

If a class doesn't appear in other modules

  • Attendance, Timetable, Fee Collection — these modules use the class list from Class Setup. If a class is missing from their dropdowns, add it here first.
  • Class Teacher dropdown is empty — Add staff members under Staff before trying to assign a class teacher.
